TALLADEGA — A Talladega man has been arrested for the unauthorized use of a city-owned gas card, according to Talladega Police Chief Alan Watson.

Derrick Hunter, 22, was arrested Thursday on a single count of fraudulent use of credit or debit card. Bond was set at $5,000 by District Judge Jeb Fannin. A warrant has also been issued for a second suspect in the case, but he had not been arrested as of Friday afternoon.

Neither suspect actually works for the city of Talladega.

The two suspects allegedly obtained a gas card from the Public Works Department just before Christmas. Between Dec. 22 and Jan. 23, Hunter allegedly managed to charge about $700 during this period.

Watson said investigators believe the card was obtained from a third party who was also not a city employee, but declined to elaborate further at this time.

Fraudulent use of a credit or debit card is a class C felony in Alabama, punishable upon conviction by one year and one day to 10 years in prison.
