Driveways opening onto Flagpole Mountain Road in Childersburg are being improved, thanks to a local business’s good neighbor policy.

Heavy rains earlier this year washed out driveways and created sinkholes all up and down the steep mountain road. Tom Thompson, the plant manager for Vulcan Materials Co.’s Childersburg Quarry, said his company was in a position to help, and did.

Vulcan rebuilt the driveway and installed a culvert for the Fraternal Order of Police Coosa Valley Lodge 8, about a quarter-mile downhill from the quarry, and repaired driveways for several homes uphill.

“They’re our neighbors,” Thompson said. “It’s our policy to help our neighbors whenever we’re able.”
