Seniors Codie Lambert and Lexi Lawley signed to play softball for Gadsden State Community College in the PCHS library while friends, family and coaches gathered to celebrate the accomplishment.
Both players have played on the varsity at Pell City for at least four years and they are now helping lead the team as they prepare for the area tournament.
“They’ve been starters since ninth grade, so they bring a lot,” Pell City softball coach Terry Isbell said Thursday. “Lexi’s been playing since eighth. She’s got 14 home runs. She probably leads the state in home runs. I know she leads the Birmingham Metro area.
“Codie’s been a wizard at second base. (Lexi’s) always come up with a big hit when we needed it.”
In addition to playing high school ball together, the two have also played summer ball with the Blue Mystics. They’ll take their camaraderie to GSCC next season, and both are excited about the opportunity.
“It’s a good school,” Lawley said. “I’m lucky to go there.”
Lambert said just being offered the chance to play softball at the next level is a huge honor.
“It’s a great school,” she said. “It’s just offering us the next level beyond high school.”
Now that they’ve made their decision on where to continue their education, the duo can now concentrate on finishing out their high school career.
“Hopefully we’ll get past area and try winning state,” Lawley said.
