Pell City’s annual fundraising luncheon for The Children’s Place brought in more than $7,100 (an admirable amount, but less than half the smallest raise the University of Alabama gave to one of its assistant football coaches). That money will go toward the worthy goal of preventing child abuse.

The Children’s Place, the child advocacy center for St. Clair County, counsels abused children and their families and helps them through the ordeal of court if the case goes before a judge. The agency works with around 160 children each year.

The Children’s Place performs an invaluable service. The attendance at the annual luncheon shows the agency is getting support it needs and deserves from the community.
