TROY - The Childersburg Lady Tigers defeated Calera 10-8 to advance to the second day of the Class 4A South-Central Regional Softball Tournament at the Troy Sportsplex.

“It was a good win because we won,” Childersburg head coach Paige Lovvorn said. “We didn’t play well at all today. We struggled in the outfield and hitting was not what it has been. Hopefully tomorrow we can come back.

“I think we have Handley in the morning. Hopefully we will show up (today).”

After being down 8-5 going into the seventh inning, Calera rallied to score three runs to tie the game.

Calera came out in the first inning and put four runs on the board. Kymber McGibong single brought in Shelby Clark to make it 1-0. Brianna Sherman fielder’s choice brought in two runs to make it 3-0. Ana Seaburg’s single scored Sherman to make it 4-0.

The Lady Tigers got two runs back in the bottom of the first inning. Heather Brannon hit her 13th home run of the year to make it 4-1. Breanna Garrett hit a double to drive in Erin Jones to make it 4-2.

“She has been consistent for us all year,” Lovvorn said of Brannon. “I think that is her 13th of the year. I think that is what got us going when she hit that homerun.”

The Lady Tigers scored five runs in the third inning to take a 7-5 lead. Garrett hit a two-run double to make it 5-4 Calera. Brittney Mims drove in Garrett with a single to tie the game at 5-5. Mims and Carlee Yarnell both scored on passed balls to give Childersburg a 7-5 advantage.

In the sixth inning Yarnell drove in Mims to give the Lady Tigers an 8-5 lead.

Handley has defeated Childersburg four times this season. The Lady Tigers of Handley beat Childersburg twice last week in the area tournament, 11-1 and 15-8.

“The last time we played was in the area tournament and it was pretty bad,” Lovvorn said. “I think they beat us by five. We have a hard time hitting against their pitcher. They’ve got a good pitcher and we have a hard time hitting against her, so maybe tomorrow we can hit.”

Alabama Christian Academy’s softball team the routed Childersburg 11-1 in the first game of the class 4A South-Central Regional Softball Tournament on Friday morning.

ACA pitcher Karisa Foye was dominant against the Lady Tigers. In her three innings of action she struck out seven batters and only allowed one hit.

The Lady Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. McKinzie Kilpatrick hit a double to score Brooklyn Goodwin to make it 1-0. Goodwin scored on a pass ball to make it 2-0. Kelli Harris capped off the inning with a towering two-run homer run over the left field wall to make it 4-0.

In the third inning ACA put four more runs on the board to make it 8-0. Jess Fair hit a two-run single to make it 6-0. Kacy Summerlin scored on an error to make it 7-0. Fair scored a run to make it 8-0 on a Goodwin ground out to the first baseman.

The Lady Eagles add two more runs in the fourth inning to make it 10-0. Amanda Seals hit a single to score Liz Taylor to make it 9-0. Fair drove in her third RBI of the game on a sacrifice fly deep to left field to bring in Taylor Mims to make it 10-0.
