RIVERSIDE — No one was injured in a fire that destroyed a house in Riverside late Monday.

“Everyone was able to get out of the house safely,” said Riverside Fire chief Tim Kurzejeski.

Kurzejeski said firefighters received the call shortly before 5 p.m., to a structure fire at 160 Smith Street.

“When the first unit arrived on scene, the two-story house was fully involved,” he said. “It took several hours to get the fire under control.”

Kurzejeski said the Wattsville Volunteer Fire Department provided mutual aid. Firefighters remained on scene to help with salvage and to watch for hot spots.

“The house was a total loss,” he said.

Kurzejeski said the Riverside Fire Department Auxiliary assisted with the fire.

“We really appreciate their support,” he said.

Kurzejeski said the fire appeared to have originated in the kitchen. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
