Investigator Walt Smith said two men, Robert Hall and Pat Barkley, got into an argument in the early evening near the park’s concession stand and shot at each other.
Smith said Hall was allegedly wounded from the gunfire but fled the scene and did not seek immediate medical attention
He said police have been looking for the two men, although no warrants have been issued.
“Neither one of them has been arrested, and no charges have been filed,” Smith said.
At Tuesday’s City Council meeting, Mayor B.J. Meeks said he was concerned about large crowds forming in the park. He said high traffic in the area Sunday prevented emergency responders from arriving at the scene quickly.
Meeks also said activities at the park would be stopped pending a review.
“If we’re going to have that kind of crowd there, we’re going to have to have some kind of law enforcement there, with off-duty officers,” he said at the meeting.
