Pell City’s population will swell by thousands this weekend, as the annual Block Party expands into a full weekend of festivities. In addition to the 10th annual Block Party tonight, the Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Kids Catfish Rodeo on Saturday morning, and the St. Clair County Home Builders Association is holding its 2010 Summer Fest Saturday afternoon.

Pell City is one of 215 towns participating in the Great Alabama Homecoming, a part of the Year of Alabama Small Towns & Downtowns. Mayor Bill Hereford will unveil a historical marker to kick off the party this evening at 5:30 in recognition of the city’s participation.

The organizers are worrying alternately about the summer heat and the potential for rain. Take along an umbrella or poncho to keep you dry on the outside, and stop by the Daily Home’s booth for a bottle of water if you get too dry on the inside. There’s just too much fun in downtown Pell City this weekend to stay home.
