That paid off in later years, as the team got stronger the longer they played together. Barclay saw the last of those players graduate in May. And the player was a special one.
Cymone Kelly was the primary pitcher for the Lady Tigers for several years. She will continue her playing days at Tuskegee University next season.
Kelly is one of the players who were named to the 1A-3A All-County Softball Team for 2010. Barclay was also named Coach of the Year.
As a senior Kelly averaged 13 strikeouts per game. She helped lead the Lady Tigers to the second day of competition in the regional tournament in Troy. Joining her on the All-County Team are teammates Ashley Ogle and Shernelia Cook.
Ogle, a freshman, led the team in hitting and was named top offensive player for Comer. Cook, an eighth grader, hit a two-run home run against Aliceville to allow the Lady Tigers to advance in the regional tournament. The shortstop was third in hitting for Comer and was given the top defensive player award for the Lady Tigers.
The Lady Wolves of Fayetteville struggled at times in the 2010 season. But they managed to turn up the intensity during the area tournament and advance to the regional tournament in Troy. Two players from Fayetteville were named to the All-County Team.
Dani Byrd played second base and catcher for the Lady Wolves. She led the team in hitting with an average of .457. Shelby Guy, who played shortstop and first base, was no slouch at the plate either. Guy recorded a batting average of .349.
Senior Leilani Perry represented the Lady Tigers of Talladega County Central on the All-County Team.
