Sylacauga company hiring 30 employees

SYLACAUGA — Alabama Industrial Development Training has established a pre-employment program for jobs at a Sylacauga company.

Fleetwood Metal Industries is looking for production associates, according to an AIDT release. Fleetwood’s plant is a metal stamping and welding technology facility.

Bobby Jon Drinkard, public information director for AIDT, said the two-week program would take 30 applicants.

On completion of training, employees’ starting wage will be $10 per hour and increase to $11.25 after one year, the release stated.

The training has been scheduled to take place at the local Fleetwood plant.

Drinkard said candidates will not be paid while going through the training process. However, trainees will be covered through workers’ compensation should an incident occur.

Information from Fleetwood said the company offers “a competitive benefits and compensation package.” It includes medical, dental and life insurance, a 401(k) and paid vacation and holidays.

“Benefits will kick in upon successful completion of the training program, and ultimately successful completion of the Fleetwood Metal initial hiring process,” Drinkard said.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of one year related experience in manufacturing. Other required qualifications include good mathematical skills, strong work ethic and an ability to work to highly demanding quality standards.

Other preferred qualifications are listed on the AIDT website.

Information on the AIDT site stated people who complete the training will be recommended for the available positions. The training program does not guarantee a job, and trainees are not required to take the position.

AIDT is a state funded program designed to build a healthy economy by recruiting and training a skilled workforce to attract new industries to the state and to expand existing industries, according to their website.

Their stated mission is to “provide quality workforce development for Alabama’s new and expanding businesses, and to expand the opportunities of its citizens through the jobs these businesses create.”
