Sylacauga’s City Council needs to appoint a new city attorney and city prosecutor. They took a refreshing way to begin their search.

They requested the city clerk to send notices to all attorneys in the city who are qualified for the position, inviting them to apply if interested.

That’s transparency at its best.

How the council decides who to hire should be determined by what its needs are, and how the applicants fit those needs.

But that comes at the end of the process. The beginning, simply inviting all who are qualified to apply for a city position, is commendable.

We wish them good luck in their search.
