How’s this for pageant requirements: mentoring, public speaking, thinking and communicating?

The organizers of Talladega Optimist Club’s first Miss Optimistic pageant had a novel idea. They put together an event to help girls learn to think on their feet, gain confidence in expressing themselves and enjoy the company of successful professional people.

No mention of beauty. No cut-throat competition for cash and prizes. Just a fun, positive experience.

There were winners, of course. Angela Hernandez is Miss Optimistic Talladega, Aniah Bonner is Miss Teen Optimistic, and Kaya Cook is Miss Pre-Teen Optimistic.

Congratulations, ladies. May you always remain optimistic.
