PELL CITY – Cropwell native Zeke Gossett added two gold medals to his collection of winnings in June.

The 13-year-old angler took home first place in the inaugural Alabama Sports Festival Bass Fishing Championship, which was held June 19. He also won the team competition with partner Anthony “Opie” Elliot, who is from Pell City.

Gossett pulled in a five fish limit weighing 16.53 pounds. His haul was more than seven pounds better than the second place finisher in the 14 and under division. Gossett’s catch was also better than the winner of the 19 and under division. Gossett’s father, Curtis Gossett, said his son was the only competitor to bring in a five-fish limit.

The younger Gossett said this latest win was his biggest haul since he began competing years ago. While only 13, Gossett has already accumulated a number of awards in the sport he plans to pursue as a career.

In the team competition, Gossett and Elliot combined for a total of 20.24 pounds to win the event by more than nine pounds.

The tournament was held at Logan Martin Lake with the weigh in taking place at Lakeside Landing.
