The Logan Martin Church of Christ 2010 Homecoming & Gospel Meeting is three weeks away.

“We are looking forward to our annual homecoming and gospel meeting,” said Tim Hayes, minister of the church.

Hayes said the Homecoming & Gospel Meeting will kick off Saturday, July 31, with a 6 p.m. dinner at the church on Martin Street South. The event is free and the public is invited and encouraged to attend.

“After the meal, we will have fun and games that evening,” he said.

Hayes said church members will bring card games and board games for a time of fun recreation.

“It’s like going home on Thanksgiving and visiting with the family,” he said.

Hayes said the Sunday services on Aug. 1 have changed from the normal church services.

“We will have the normal Bible class at 9 a.m. and the worship service at 10 a.m.,” he said. “Then we will have lunch provided by the church.”

Hayes said congregational singing will follow lunch, with another worship service at 1 p.m.

“The visiting preacher is David Jones from Houma, La., and he will speak at the meetings during the homecoming,” he said.

Hayes said the church will not have the normal Sunday evening worship service that week.

“Monday morning, from 9 a.m.-noon, Brother Jones’ wife, Kathy, will host a teachers’ workshop for ladies only,” he said.

Hayes said the teachers’ seminar will focus on teaching Bible classes to younger children.

“The teachers’ workshop is free to attend,” he said. “You don’t have to register, you can simply show up.”

Hayes said evening meetings are at 7 Monday-Wednesday, Aug. 2-4, also featuring Jones.

“We had about 150 people at last year’s homecoming, and are hoping to have at least that many this year,” he said. “We would love to have 200 people attend this year.”

Hayes, who was born and raised in Alabama, said he returned as a minister three years ago.

“I went into the military after high school, then worked as a mechanic millwright in North Carolina for 25 years,” he said. “I decided I wanted to go into preaching full time, and went to school in Memphis.”

Hayes said he is happy here, and loves the area.

“The church is growing some, and we are looking forward to continuing that growth,” he said.

Hayes said about 90 members attend each Sunday, but he is shooting for 100-plus.

The church has a 9 a.m. Bible class, a 10 a.m. worship service, and a 6 p.m. service on Sundays, and a Wednesday prayer meeting service at 7 p.m.
