Talladega’s Mount Canaan Baptist Church family will honor pastor Dr. Horace L. Patterson Sr. and first lady Dr. Dolia M. Patterson and their family for 36 years of service at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Patterson is known throughout the local community, state and nation for his pastoral leadership, theological and ministerial teachings, published works, professional involvement, civic endeavors and political viewpoints.

Patterson believes in the development of the whole person and demonstrates this daily through his humanitarian work.

Under the leadership of Patterson, Mount Canaan has experienced growth in numerous directions.

Most recently, adjoining property once belonging to Wehadkee Yarn Mills has been purchased and construction of Mount Canaan’s Regional Family Life Center is well on its way. It is expected to be completed within the next four months.

Dolia Patterson serves as principal of Houston Elementary School in Talladega. The Pattersons have three children, Horace Jr., Julian Niles and Ivy Eleece; two daughters-in-law, Angela and Jennifer; and two grandchildren, Horace III and Jordan Kasei.

The public is invited to be guests at this spiritual expression of love at the anniversary celebration.

The speaker for the Sunday morning worship will be the Rev. Duane Player, associate minister at Mount Canaan. The afternoon speaker will be Dr. L.L. Jacobs, pastor of Kelly Springs Baptist Church in Munford.
