TALLADEGA COUNTY — Members of the Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce are having a job fair specifically for former employees of Floyd and Beasley Transfer Company.

The job fair is scheduled for 9-1 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at the chamber office on Fort Williams Street. A list of the companies that plan to participate has not yet been released.

A senior official at Floyd and Beasley said Wednesday that all company operations would cease permanently July 16. The company, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September, was converted to a Chapter 7 in a court hearing Tuesday.

Company president Jeff Floyd said about 118 workers would lose their jobs.

Cecil Floyd, Jeff Floyd’s grandfather, began the C.R. Floyd Company in 1938. In 1944, he and Jule Beasley partnered to form Floyd and Beasley Transfer.

The company remained a private, family-owned corporation.

For more information on the job fair, contact the Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce at 256-249-0308.

In Talladega, MasterBrand Cabinets Inc. is holding a job fair 1-6 p.m. Tuesday, with the goal of filling both hourly and salary positions. The fair is open to anyone with a high school diploma or GED.

The available jobs span the range of operations at the plant, and include production, shipping, receiving, machine operators, quality auditors, pickers, leads, supervisors, superintendents and engineers. Those attending the fair should be prepared for an interview that day, according to an advertisement.

The plant is located on East Parkway Avenue in the Bemiston community. MasterBrand is the largest private sector employer in the city of Talladega.

Up to 120 jobs will result from hiring from the fair.

This year’s round of new jobs will include benefits.

The shop folks seem to be the ones having the most trouble finding jobs. I know several of the men are struggling trying to find a job close to home, that actually pays decent. This will definitely help.
