TALLADEGA — A man was killed instantly Friday evening after stepping in front of a freight train at the Roosevelt Street crossing.

According to Police Chief Alan Watson, the deceased was identified as Larry Reynolds, 53, of Talladega. Although the case remains under investigation, Watson said there was no indication of foul play and no obvious evidence of suicide. Blood samples were taken for a toxicology test.

“He just walked or ran right out into the crossing, in front of the train, according to what we’ve heard from witnesses,” Watson said.

The accident happened just before 4 p.m., and traffic was snarled for more than an hour on that end of town because the train could not move.

Watson confirmed that Reynold’s next of kin was notified shortly after the accident.

He was officially declared dead at the scene by Talladega County Coroner Jerry Castleberry.
