MAILROOM

Getting the word out

Last updated: August 1, 2002

At The Daily Home the mail room isn't where the mail comes in -- it's where we get our mail ready to go out.

Most subscribers get their papers delivered by our own delivery team, but for some readers -- especially those in other states -- get theirs delivered by the postal service.

Our mail room work does much more than mail newspapers. Pre-printed advertising pieces have to be inserted into the newspapers after they are printed, often while the paper carriers are anxiously waiting to begin their daily route delivery. Yvonne Martin and her crew are responsible not only for inserting the ads, but for making sure that they go where intended.

Advertisers can reach our 10,000 subscribers any day, or can choose on Wednesday's to reach our total coverage area by teaming up with The Daily Home and our Coosa Valley Advantage paper. Between the two we reach virtually all of Talladega County and the Pell City area. Add The Hometown Marketplace paper to reach the Vincent and Harpersville areas, The Coosa Marketplace for Coosa County, and The St. Clair Times, a weekly paper for all of St. Clair County, and you can see we can reach a good portion of the population in east central Alabama.

Not all advertisers need to reach the entire circulation area with their message. No problem. Our ad department can customize delivery according to our newspaper route patterns to suit the advertiser's needs. And of course the advertiser can pick the day the ad needs to be delivered to our home delivery subscribers -- no need to play post office with time-sensitive information. Call Pam Adamson for details.(256) 362-1000 Talladega, (256) 249-4315 Sylacauga or (205) 884-3401 Pell City.

And one of the most dramatic changes in the history of our newspaper occurs in August, 2002. A multi-million dollar, state-of-the-art printing press will go in a new building to serve The Daily Home and the rest of the Consolidated Publishing family: The Anniston Star, The Cleburne News and The Jacksonville News. A new distribution center located in that building will feature newer and faster technology to allow our people to do a better job for our readers and advertisers.
